Pickle popsicles
Somehow I ended up with about a cup of leftover pickle juice from some sweet dill pickles, so I decided to make pickle popsicles! It took a long time for them to freeze and even after a day I had trouble removing the pickle popsicle from the mold while keeping the stick intact. I went outside in the lovely afternoon with the pickle popsicle precariously perched on its popsicle stick and proceeded to lick. I was immediately struck with an overwhelming sensation on my tongue, the flavor is difficult to describe, but the taste registered somewhere between vomit and urine, and lingered for quite a while. I was shocked that pickle juice would result in this flavor, so I proceeded to lick the pop, this time in a different location because I suspect that the process of freezing caused the juices to separate during crystallization. I licked the opposite end of the pop, and the flavor was somewhat sweeter, while the slight hint of bile lingered in the background. I confess I was unable to consume the entire pop. My palate is not properly calibrated in this flavor range. Next time I boil hot dogs I will save the water and make hot dog water pops.
